Thanks to those of you who posted your thoughts about the Web 2.0 video by Michael Wesch. I thought some of you might like to see it again, so here it is.
And here's another take on the internet, from a slightly different perspective.

The thing I find really interesting in this video is that they were definitely wrong about how things look, but there were more or less right about the substance. For example, they imagine people shopping and paying bills on the internet, which are pretty common today, but the way they imagine it is so fixated on a 1960s conception of how things work. Instead of having digitized pictures and descriptions of things for sale, they imagine a camera moving around in the store and showing the customer the actual items, which I think is hilarious. But then again, perhaps such a system is yet to be invented.
Then, of course, there is the nonchalant sexism / heteronormativity of the scenario, with the wife doing the shopping and the husband paying the bills, which is perhaps not as far off as it should be, but still seems ridiculous.
